Masterclasses

Wherever our concert performances take us, our commitment to pass on our passion goes with us. A typical day sees the ensemble giving a masterclass in a morning followed by the afternoon or evening concert.

Primary Schools

An example of a masterclass in a primary school is to start with a short recital by the ensemble to set the scene for the session. This is then followed by an open discussion on the art of performing music.

The masterclass then focusses on the youngsters trying the instruments in our “have-a-blow” session. This is held under the guidance of our musicians with the aim of the youngsters learning and enjoying the chance to play musical instruments. These sessions can be of hugely inspirational, enjoyable and a confidence builder in individuals. Teachers are expected to oversee the sessions and “have-a-blow” themselves !

Sessions are usually 2 hours and are designed jointly between the teachers and ourselves. All those involved will have passed DBS checks and have experience of these sessions. Secondary Schools

An example of a masterclass in a secondary school setting is to start with a short recital by the ensemble open to all music students. This is followed by an open discussion on the art of musical performance.

The masterclass then focusses on the brass players specifically offering individual or group coaching. If required we can learn a new piece, to be performed side-by-side with the ensemble players in a feature performance to conclude this section. This can be of hugely inspirational, and educational value as well as an excellent team builder – as the students are playing and learning alongside our musicians. We have a variety of musical arrangements to suit the differing standards and abilities of school brass players. Finally, the ensemble, if required will play a second recital.

Sessions are usually 3 to 4 hours and are designed jointly between your tutors and ourselves. For more information on holding a project please contact Paul Robinson (Director) via email at: paul@glyndwrensemble.com or by phone on 077305 85067

Higher Education / Regional Ensembles:

These students are usually musicians already performing to a Grade 5 and above level.

The aim of the session will be to give the students an insight into music performance, passing on our passion and knowledge of the music industry. To gain the most out of a masterclass at this level the session will be designed jointly by the tutors and ourselves.

Sessions are usually 3 to 4 hours in length and include a recital by the ensemble.
